Magazine for sale: The Owner Builder

B2C magazine The Owner Builder magazine is for sale for the first time in 16 years, representing an opportunity for an experienced publisher to further develop the brand’s print and digital platforms. 

Established in 1982, The Owner Builder showcases the building efforts of owner builders, providing information and inspiration with a focus on sustainability and individuality. 

The magazine is a bi-monthly 84-page publication, currently printed in Sydney. Its digital assets include an email database, a website, an online store and an active Facebook page with over 7,000 followers.

The magazine enjoys a loyal base of owner builder readers (some subscribers since the first edition) and a good long-term track record with advertisers (averaging 30 an edition). There are around 750 active direct subscribers and newsagent sales of 2,500 to 3,000 copies. 

Editorial is sourced from a mix of regular contributors, expert practitioners, advertisers and one-off owner builders, keen to share their stories.

Included in the sale: 

  • Business name
  • All back issues and a few compilations in PDF format
  • Full catalogue of working files for all back issues
  • Database of past and present subscribers and advertisers
  • Website and online store
  • Domain name and associated email addresses
  • Facebook page (also Instagram, Pinterest, WordPress, Twitter)
  • Issuu account with digital copies of past magazines
  • Layout templates.

Since it was first published, the magazine has been owned by three publishers, with the last owning the magazine for 16 years. The magazine is being sold so that the current owner – a solo operator – can pursue their dream of long-term travel.
